Journey to Embrace Creativity & Diversity in Canada

Journey to Embrace Creativity & Diversity in Canada

  • Md. Harunur Rashid

Being a student of MBA of Daffodil International University (DIU) Bangladesh recently I Md. Harunur Rashid participated in Mosaic Summer School on Management and Creativity and Innovation in Montreal and Toronto from June 27 to July 13. It is a flagship program which is organized by the Mosaic Chair of Research in Management of Creativity and Innovation, HEC Montreal, Canada. The tuition fee of the program was 8500 CAD and being a member of 2nd Runner Up team of Social Business Creation Competition 2018 I have been offered full scholarship on tuition fee for this program.

It was a great opportunity for me to explore a new environment and take inspiration that enhances my creativity and knowledge altogether. Moreover, being a participant, I was able to meet with the influential leaders and interacted with them, which was very important to grow my network and also to show my qualities to such leaders.

This year it was organized in HEC Montreal, Ryerson University and the University of Barcelona in three different cities in three cities Montreal, Toronto, and Barcelona. About 70 participants from a wide variety of backgrounds and different countries such as Mexico, India, Argentina, France, and some others attended this summer school. Participants were mostly graduate students, professionals, and academicians.

Undoubtedly, we had a great multidimensional experience during the summer school since we had lectures, sharing with Key Note Speakers, attending conferences, visiting companies such as CHUM Center, Spin Master, and co-creation workshops where we actually implemented what we just learned during those lectures, conferences and company visits. We had hands-on experience with game and experiment from the practical field. We observed and shaped to encourage people to think outside of the box. We embraced creativity & diversity. We learned to believe in combining disciplines, approaches, and viewpoints.

I wasn’t used to that dynamic and I always worked alone on choosing my projects, brainstorming, implementing ideas. But after attending the summer school and work under groups I learned the power of teamwork that is necessary for life. Something I learned in this summer school is really how to take a step back, listening to others and learning to let go of my own ideas but mostly supporting others too. That’s my key take away from this summer school and I think it’s also very important to emphasize the importance of teamwork

Last but not least I am very much thankful to the HEC Montreal, Canada, and DIU, Bangladesh for such a great the opportunity that is really a life-changing for a student to learn and grow knowledge in life as I had in this global journey.
